Balance

As I stood in tree pose this morning, I recognized that balance is all about focus, awareness, and patience. Most of the time most of the people I know are searching for a balance at home, at work, and in relationships. Balance oftentimes seems like this unattainable feat that we will never reach. What tree pose showed me was that it is attainable, and we can acquire it, but you have to be present.

Focus is something that does not come easy in our present day living. There is someone or something that is constantly vying for our attention. We have children, jobs, families, and friends. One of the biggest distractions that keep us from focusing are the cell phones that we have glued to us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. How did we ever function without them?! All of the aforementioned “things” are distractions to keep us unfocused. I am not saying we do not need them, or they should not be. What I am saying is that we need a balance so that we are able to focus on the things that are important. Stay focused.

Awareness allows us to have knowledge and perception on whatever it is that we are focusing on; awareness and focus go hand it hand. Leo Tolstoy once wrote in an essay of Letters and Miscellanies, “If, then, I were asked for the most important advice I could give, that which I considered to be the most useful to the men of our century, I should simply say: in the name of God, stop a moment, cease your work, look around you.” Again, we are so busy ripping and running that we do not take the time to discover all of the gifts and the beauty that God has presented us with. Be aware.

Patience is a virtue. It sounds a lot simpler than it is, but what I am learning is through patience, God reveals, and God is able to work. We just have to trust. Impatience and impulsivity creates problems and unnecessary issues. If we just breathe and get ourselves back to a place of peace, we can find that balance and move forward. The ego wants to do it its own way. Practice patience.

The ego is what ultimately keeps us unfocused, unaware, and impatient; it takes us out of the present. It does not want us balanced. It wants us all over the place with no direction. Ego = Eliminating Godly Outcomes. Find balance in your life so that God can show you his purpose and that you can find harmony within. Balance.

Just Breathe....

With all that is happening in the world, I feel like we all are collectively holding our breath. The stifling fear of it all has created a dark cloud that hovers every where, just breathe. In the midst of the chaos and the uncertainty, we have to remember to just breathe. Headline after headline of doom and gloom; turn the noise off and just breathe. What we must realize is breath is life. I once read that deep breaths are like little love notes to our body. We must breathe. Breathing ensures that we are still here and that we have another opportunity to get it right. We are all here together. Embrace the now and what is. Be present. Be aware. Just breathe. We were formed by God and did not come alive until breath was placed in our bodies. His breath gave us life then, and it surely gives us breath now. Remember my dear friends, just breathe.

Grounding

During times of uncertainty, it is imperative that you get grounded if you already haven’t. Grounding provides us with the opportunity to connect with the source, God. Grounding is a time to truly dig deeper, recognize what is happening around us and not in us, and move forward with confidence that God is in control. Grounding allows us to stay in the present moment. You are not reaching for the past or looking toward the future, you are in the present moment, which is the only moment that truly matters. Scripture tells us in Psalm 46: 10, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” God is saying to us, stop what you are doing and focus on me. As we ground, we have to turn off the noise of the world, and we must get grounding in the things of God in order to be propelled forward in a new season.

Three Powerful Ways to Hit The “Pause” Button

This is a sample blog post written for DailyCupofYoga. For many of us, life seems to dash by at breakneck speed. Like a game character jumping through hoops, solving puzzles and facing challenges, it can sometimes feel as if we are being propelled forward with little agency or control, thoughtlessly rushing from one thing to the next; then realising that months have disappeared and we’re not entirely sure what we’ve done with them. Luckily, however, we don’t have to rely on someone else to press pause and give us some much-needed breathing space – we can do it ourselves.
